Professor T is set to return to ITV this summer with a fourth season, following a gap of more than two years between instalments.
The crime drama, starring Ben Miller, will air in the UK in August. It is an adaptation of the Belgian TV series of the same name and follows Professor Jasper Tempest, a criminologist at the University of Cambridge who has OCD and helps police solve crimes.
What viewers can expect in series 4
The fourth series already aired in the US on PBS last year and was originally due to be shown on ITV in autumn 2025. That plan was later pushed back, with the new UK broadcast now confirmed for August.
The story picks up six months after the events of season three, when DS Lisa Donckers was struck by a car and killed. According to the programme details, Winter, Tempest and the rest of the team are still dealing with her death as they turn their attention to a “dangerous crime wave”.
The “gloves are well and truly off” for the professor in his lectures, and he also explores a “new musical pursuit,” the Radio Times reports.
ITV has also confirmed a fifth series has been commissioned.
Speaking ahead of the fourth season, Ben Miller said: “I’m beyond thrilled that we will soon be breaking ground on a fifth series of Professor T.
“Working with such a talented cast and crew is a joy that even a heavy woollen suit can’t stifle, and I can’t wait for audiences to see the treats we’ve got in store for them in Series 4, when the Professor tackles his most baffling case yet: romance.
“The fact that audiences worldwide have embraced the show so warmly is hugely rewarding, and we’re already brimming with ideas to make Series 5 even more quirky, heartfelt, and surprising.
“Here’s to another season of baffling crime, dreaming spires, and ironing that tweed…”

When to watch on ITV1
The first episode of Professor T series 4 will air at 9pm on Wednesday, August 19 on ITV1. The remaining five episodes will follow in the same timeslot over the next few weeks.
