Monaco beat Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 in Ligue 1’s third round, with Stanis Idumbo scoring the winner at the Stade Louis-II on Saturday. After two draws, PSG slipped to their first defeat of the season, while Monaco moved top of the table on nine points. PSG are 12th on two points and are still waiting for a first league victory this term.
PSG were dominant in the first half and made that superiority count when Marquinhos scored from a Khvicha Kvaratskhelia cross in the 31st minute to make it 1-0. Monaco, however, were sluggish on the break and offered little threat until Nazinho headed home from a scrappy move in the 58th minute to level the match.
As PSG pushed to regain the lead, they left space behind and Monaco made them pay when Idumbo struck in the 72nd minute to complete the turnaround. The 21-year-old Belgian, who had started for Monaco, has now scored three goals for the first team. His victims? Rennes, but especially Barcelona and now Paris Saint-Germain. A tougher list could hardly be asked for.
For PSG, Mika Godts came off the bench in the 69th minute.
