The Belgian Cats opened their World Cup campaign with an 89-75 win over Turkey in Group C, bouncing back strongly after a difficult first half to take control in the third quarter.
Turkey began aggressively and unsettled Mike Thibault’s side, who were not ideally prepared coming into the tournament. Belgium were behind at the interval, but returned with far more energy and intensity after the break, and that change in attitude proved decisive.
Emma Meesseman led the way for Belgium with 27 points, while Julie Vanloo was in inspired form from outside the arc, finishing with 22 points and going 6 for 11 from three-point range. The Cats dominated the third quarter 27-9, turning the match firmly in their favour.
They then controlled the closing stages to complete a convincing 89-75 victory.
