Club Brugge bounced back from Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at La Gantoise by securing a narrow Pro League victory at Lommel on Friday in the fifth round of fixtures.
Against a promising promoted side that has now collected seven points from 15, Ivan Leko’s men were not at their most fluent in attack, but they went in front just before the break when Timothy Eyoma put the ball into his own net in the 45th minute to make it 1-0.
Nicolo Tresoldi came close to doubling the lead with a quarter of an hour remaining, but his goal was ruled out after a VAR intervention. The visitors held on for the win, which lifts the Blauw & Zwart to 12 points, level with Charleroi and La Gantoise, who still have to play their fifth league match.
Club Brugge now turn their attention to Europe, with their Champions League league phase beginning on Tuesday. Aston Villa are the visitors to the Jan Breydel Stadion for that opener.
