Which path would the eldest son of Belgian King Philippe choose? It comes as no surprise: at 23, Prince Gabriel has opted for a military career.
He will undergo training at the Infantry School in Arlon before aiming for the particularly demanding paracommandos training at Marche-les-Dames and Schaffen.
Until now, the law did not permit members of the royal family to pursue a paid professional military career. Last May, the Council of Ministers approved a preliminary draft law to amend the army’s statutory framework.
Prince Gabriel is expected to pursue a career as a professional soldier, even if would prefer something else.
Graduation from the Royal Military Academy
This Thursday, Prince Gabriel will graduate from the Royal Military Academy in Brussels. He is completing a four-year program in Social and Military Sciences. The King and Queen, along with Crown Princess Elisabeth, are expected to attend the graduation ceremony.
