The owner and coordinator of a coaching centre in Delhi were arrested on Sunday following the tragic deaths of three civil services aspirants due to rain-induced flooding in the basement. The coaching institute had permission to use the basement as a storeroom, but it was being used as a library, violating building rules. Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has instructed strict action against institutes misusing basements for commercial purposes. The arrested individuals are Abhishek Gupta, the owner, and Deshpal Singh, the coordinator.
In other news, the Supreme Court is set to hear Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia’s bail pleas on Monday in relation to corruption and money laundering cases linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. Sisodia has been in custody for 16 months and has requested bail, citing lack of progress in the trial since October last year.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced in the 112th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ that Charaideo Maidam of Assam is being added to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list. This will be India’s 43rd site and the first from the Northeast. PM Modi highlighted the significance of Charaideo Maidam as a World Heritage Site that will attract more tourism.
Additionally, President Droupadi Murmu has accepted Banwarilal Purohit’s resignation as Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, appointing new governors for several states. The changes include Gulab Chand Kataria as the new Governor of Punjab, Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde as Governor of Rajasthan, and Jishnu Dev Varma as Governor of Telangana, among others.
