“However, by 21 (nearly 22) I never thought I would’ve been through half of what I have.
“I choose to take a break from alcohol because it wasn’t improving my mental health — which for me, comes first.
“This time last year I was at my lowest and I was scared but I made a decision to take control of what I could — and that meant removing alcohol from my life.
“It was not an easy decision, nor one that I have taken lightly.
“I won’t say this is forever, but this is for now. Living without alcohol has helped me feel better and more present both mentally and physically.

Who is Adam Peaty?
Adam Peaty was born in Staffordshire on December 28, 1994.
His parents are Mark and Caroline Peaty, and he is the youngest of four children
He is a professional swimmer who specialises in the breaststroke.
Remarkably Peaty actually had an acute fear of the water until the age of four, partly because his brothers told him sharks can come up through the plughole.
However, after one swimming lesson, Peaty lost this fear.
Former Olympic swimmer Melanie Marshall noticed Peaty had “something special” about his breaststroke when he was just 14 years old.
But it was not until he was 17 that Adam decided to start taking swimming seriously, after seeing Craig Benson — a swimmer he knew from the junior circuit — at the London 2012 Olympics.
Since then the 29-year-old has smashed every breaststroke sprint record, becoming a three-time Olympic gold medalist and eight-time World Champion along the way.
The 2023 season saw Adam take a break from swimming to prioritise his mental health after admitting he’d been suffering from depression and alcoholism.
In July 2024 interview, Adam paid tribute to the Ramsay family’s part in his return to the pool, saying: “Gordon just inspires me to be successful.
“Holly is obviously part of the core team every single day. She is on this journey with me.”
