Sleepy Eye St. Marys’ Brandon Schmitz Commits to Play Baseball at Bethany Lutheran College
Sleepy Eye St. Marys’ standout baseball player, Brandon Schmitz, has made a big decision for his future in the sport. The talented pitcher and infielder announced on Friday, March 8, that he will be joining the pitching staff at Bethany Lutheran College next spring.
Schmitz will be joining forces with Adryen Tietz of Wabasso and Jackson Huiras of Sleepy Eye, who were both previous recipients of the All-Journal Baseball Player of the Year award. Schmitz cited the presence of familiar faces like Huiras on the team as a major factor in his decision to choose BLC.
In an interview, Schmitz expressed his excitement about the opportunity to play college baseball at a successful program like Bethany. He mentioned that he had also considered the University of Wisconsin – River Falls, but ultimately felt that BLC was the right fit for him.
With an impressive pitching record from his time at St. Marys, Schmitz is looking forward to contributing to the team’s success at Bethany. He hopes to eventually work his way into the starting rotation but is willing to take on any role to help the team win.
Off the field, Schmitz plans to study exercise science and pursue a master’s degree in physical therapy. He is eager to begin this new chapter in his baseball career and academic journey at Bethany Lutheran College.
Bethany’s baseball program has a strong track record of success, and Schmitz is excited to be a part of it. With his talent and determination, he is sure to make a significant impact on the team and continue to excel in the sport he loves.
