University of Iowa Health Care improves in latest U.S. News hospital rankings

The University of Iowa’s Health Care operation has recently made significant gains in the U.S. News & World Report “best hospital” rankings for the 2024-25 edition. This marks a positive shift for the institution, as it had seen a decline in rankings in previous years.

In the latest rankings, the UIHC Medical Center placed in the Top 50 nationally in three adult specialties, including ophthalmology, ear, nose, and throat, and cancer care. This improvement is a testament to the high-quality care provided by the hospital’s teams and its unique value to the state of Iowa.

UI Vice President for Medical Affairs and UI Carver College of Medicine Dean Denise Jamieson expressed pride in the recognition, stating, “Iowans are fortunate to have a widely recognized and nationally respected academic health system right here in our state, so we can be there for them when they need us most.”

The U.S. News rankings evaluate data from nearly 5,000 hospitals based on patient outcomes, patient satisfaction scores, patient safety, advanced technology, nursing quality, and certification. UIHC’s improved rankings this year reflect its commitment to advancing healthcare through clinical care, research, and training.

While UIHC’s three ranked specialties this year show improvement from previous years, the institution aims to continue its upward trajectory in providing top-notch medical care to the community. The recognition from U.S. News is a testament to the dedication and expertise of the healthcare professionals at the University of Iowa.
