External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar Engages in Diplomatic Talks at Astana Summit

Astana, Kazakhstan: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has been busy engaging in diplomatic talks at the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in Astana. On Wednesday, he met with UN chief Antonio Guterres to discuss global hotspots and their larger implications, as well as the reform of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

In addition to his meeting with Guterres, Jaishankar also held discussions with his counterparts from Belarus and Tajikistan, Maksim Ryzhenkov and Sirojiddin Muhriddin respectively. The Minister took to social media to share his insights from the meetings, highlighting the importance of these discussions in shaping future partnerships and cooperation.

Jaishankar’s visit to Astana comes at a crucial time, with the upcoming ‘Summit of the Future’ in September and ongoing efforts to strengthen India’s ties with key allies in the region. His meetings with Tajikistan, Belarus, and Russia reflect India’s commitment to fostering strong bilateral relationships and promoting cooperation on multilateral forums.

The inclusion of Belarus as the newest member of the SCO further underscores the organization’s growing influence as an economic and security bloc. With nine member states already on board, including India, China, and Russia, the SCO is poised to play a significant role in shaping regional dynamics and addressing global challenges.

As Kazakhstan hosts the summit in its capacity as the current chair of the grouping, Jaishankar’s presence at the event signals India’s active participation in regional affairs and commitment to advancing shared goals and interests. Stay tuned for more updates on the outcomes of these diplomatic talks and their impact on India’s foreign policy agenda.
