Jay Slater’s mother, Debbie Duncan, flew to Tenerife in Spain’s Canary Islands to search for her missing son, expressing concerns that he may have been taken against his will. She described the situation as traumatic and horrendous, stating that she believes her son has been taken against his will based on the information available. Despite Spanish police refusing the help of British officers in the search, Lancashire Police offered support, with a spokesperson confirming that the offer remains open should the need for additional resources arise. The search for the 19-year-old, who was last seen in Buenavista del Norte, has included firefighters, helicopters, rescue dogs, and drones combing a large stretch of rugged terrain in Tenerife.

Spanish police have refused the help of British officers in finding missing teenager Jay Slater who vanished from a remote part of Tenerife.

Lancashire Police said Spain’s Guardia Civil turned down its “offer of support” to help in the search, which has already included firefighters, helicopters, rescue dogs and drones combing a large stretch of rugged terrain.

Mr Slater, 19, has been missing since Monday after he was last seen in Buenavista del Norte where he asked a cafe owner twice what time the bus arrived at around 8am before walking off and disappearing.

Fifteen minutes later, he phoned his friend to say he was lost, dehydrated and had one per cent phone battery after attending a music festival the night before.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson toldThe Independent: “They have confirmed that at this time they are satisfied that they have the resources they need, but that offer remains open and they will contact us should that position change.”

The teenager was last seen wearing a white T-shirt with shorts and trainers, and his phone shows his last location as the Rural de Teno park at 8.50am around 27 miles away from the festival he was at.

Where have authorities been searching?

A specialist mountain rescue team, including a police helicopter, has been deployed to look for Jay.

A spokesperson for the Civil Guard said it was focusing on the area around the village of Masca – which is nearby his last known location in the north.

Authorities briefly switched their search to the south of the island in tourist on Wednesday, close to where Jay was staying with friends in the popular tourist hotspots Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Americas.
