The Baltimore Orioles made history on Thursday with a dominant 17-5 victory over the New York Yankees. Cedric Mullins and Gunnar Henderson led the charge as the Orioles set a major league record by winning their 22nd straight series against an AL East opponent. Henderson extended his impressive on-base streak to 27 games and hitting streak to 13 games, while Mullins hit a two-run homer to spark a six-run second inning.
The Orioles’ offense was firing on all cylinders, with Ryan Mountcastle, Anthony Santander, and Ryan O’Hearn all contributing with key hits. Santander’s three-run homer marked his MLB-best 10th homer of the month, while O’Hearn drove in four runs with a double and a single. Austin Hays also added a two-run homer in the seventh as the Orioles collected 19 hits in total.
Despite a strong offensive showing from the Yankees, including home runs from Gleyber Torres and Aaron Judge, the Orioles’ pitching and hitting proved too much for New York to handle. The win brings the Orioles within a half-game of first place in the division, solidifying their position as a force to be reckoned with in the AL East.
In other MLB action, the Cleveland Guardians defeated the Seattle Mariners 6-3, the Arizona Diamondbacks topped the Washington Nationals 5-2, and the Tampa Bay Rays edged out the Minnesota Twins 7-6 in 10 innings. The Houston Astros rallied past the Chicago White Sox 5-3, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies 5-3, and the Kansas City Royals held off the Oakland Athletics 3-2. The St. Louis Cardinals also emerged victorious with a 6-5 win over the San Francisco Giants in a special Negro Leagues tribute game at Rickwood Field.
