VCU’s nuclear engineering graduate program achieves No. 18 ranking in U.S. News and World Report – VCU News

The nuclear engineering graduate program at Virginia Commonwealth University’s College of Engineering has recently climbed three ranks to secure the 18th spot in the nation, according to U.S. News and World Report. Karla Mossi, Ph.D., mechanical and nuclear engineering professor and graduate program director, expressed her excitement about the program’s growing reputation. She highlighted the surge in National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships and the recognition from prestigious organizations like the Department of Energy’s Nuclear Energy University Programs, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and International Atomic Energy Agency.

The Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at VCU provides students with the opportunity to engage in real-world research from the moment they enroll. Through partnerships with industry leaders like Dominion Energy, students receive a solid foundation in nuclear energy and can choose to specialize in either mechanical or nuclear engineering. The department also offers access to industry tools such as the Nuclear Reactor Simulator Laboratory for practical instruction.

In addition to academic support, faculty members at VCU serve as a bridge to leading employers in the field, ensuring students have a clear path to success and unique opportunities for career advancement. The College of Engineering has also announced the launch of six new master’s programs in various engineering disciplines, providing students with more in-depth learning opportunities starting in the fall of 2024.
