Jamestown Boys Basketball Team Makes Historic Trip to NYSPHSAA Final Four
The Jamestown boys basketball program is making waves as they head to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association final four for the third time in their history. What makes this trip even more special is that head coach Billy Miley, a Jamestown High School graduate, will be leading the team in their quest for a state title.
Miley, who took over as head coach after the retirement of the legendary Ben Drake, has seamlessly transitioned into his new role. Under his leadership, the Red & Green have achieved a 21-4 record and are ranked No. 11 in the state.
The team’s success can be attributed to their strong defensive play, holding all five playoff opponents under 60 points, and a balanced offense led by junior Jaydian Johnson, sophomore Dominic Gonzalez, and senior Greg Brumagin.
Their next challenge comes in the form of Elmont Memorial in the NYSPHSAA Class AA semifinal at Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls. Elmont Memorial, ranked No. 10 in the state, presents a tough matchup with their athleticism and scoring ability.
Despite the tough competition, Miley and his team are confident in their abilities and are aiming for nothing less than a state title. The winner of the semifinal game will advance to the championship game against either Our Lady of Lourdes or West Genesee.
As the team prepares for this crucial moment, Miley’s focus on setting high standards and goals for his players, instilled in him by Coach Drake, is evident. The team is determined to make the most of this opportunity and bring home a championship to Jamestown.
Stay tuned for updates on this exciting journey as the Jamestown boys basketball team looks to make history in Glens Falls.
