Shaw Local announces All-Southwest Prairie Conference teams for spring sports in 2024

Players from the Herald-News coverage area shined in the 2024 Southwest Prairie All-Conference Teams across various sports, including girls badminton, boys volleyball, girls soccer, baseball, and softball. The announcement of the all-conference teams at the end of the school year highlighted the exceptional talent and hard work of these student-athletes.

In softball, Joliet West dominated the SPC East with Brooke Schwall earning the title of Most Valuable Player and Madison Jadron as Most Valuable Pitcher. The team also boasted all-conference selections Avery Houlihan, Shelby Fraser, and Ella Featherston. Meanwhile, Minooka swept the West MVPs with Gracie Anderson named Most Valuable Player and Taylor Mackin as Most Valuable Pitcher, alongside Sofia Dziuba, Karli McMillin, and Addison Crumly.

In baseball, Joliet West’s Jimmy Anderson and Casey Tyrell were recognized as the SPC East MVPs, while Minooka’s Nate George and Brayden Zilis took home the West MVP titles. Additional standout players from the area included Ryan Anderson, Isaac Goddard, and CJ Deckinga from Minooka, as well as Cael Karczewski and James Love from Joliet West.

Girls soccer saw players like Lauren Mrugala and Grier Isaacson from Plainfield North, as well as Keira Rucka and Cali Rucka from Minooka, receiving all-conference honors. The league MVP title went to Oswego East’s Anya Gulbrandsen.

In boys volleyball, Joliet West’s Landon Brouwer was named the Southwest Prairie Conference MVP, with teammates Thomas Fellows and Nathan Fleischauer also making the all-conference team. Plainfield East, Plainfield North, and Minooka also had players recognized for their outstanding performances.

Lastly, girls badminton featured talented athletes from Plainfield North, Plainfield East, Joliet West, Romeoville, Plainfield South, and Joliet Central, showcasing their skills and dedication on the court.

Overall, the Herald-News coverage area was well represented in the 2024 Southwest Prairie All-Conference Teams, demonstrating the depth of talent and competitive spirit among local student-athletes.
