UAMS Medical Center Recognized as “Best Regional Hospital for Equitable Access” by U.S. News & World Report
In a recent announcement by U.S. News & World Report, the UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas, was named as one of the inaugural “Best Regional Hospitals for Equitable Access.” This prestigious recognition highlights 53 health care institutions across the United States that excel in quality care while also providing substantial access to socioeconomically disadvantaged patients.
UAMS Medical Center, affiliated with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), was the only hospital in Arkansas to be included in this esteemed list, which encompassed 26 states. Dr. Cam Patterson, Chancellor of UAMS and CEO of UAMS Health, expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating, “At UAMS, we are committed to providing the best possible care to all Arkansans. It is our privilege to be entrusted with the care of so many, and we are honored to be recognized for our commitment to high quality, equitable care.”
The criteria for selection as a Best Regional Hospital for Equitable Access included factors such as serving a high percentage of patients from socioeconomically deprived neighborhoods, racial/ethnic minority patients, and Medicaid patients. U.S. News Chief of Health Analysis, Ben Harder, emphasized the importance of recognizing hospitals that prioritize equitable access to care, stating, “The Best Regional Hospitals for Equitable Access demonstrate by their example that a hospital can both excel in overall quality of care and also provide a substantial amount of that exceptional care to historically underserved communities.”
Dr. Michelle Krause, Senior Vice Chancellor for UAMS Health, highlighted the institution’s longstanding commitment to providing care to all individuals, regardless of their ability to pay. She noted, “As the state’s only academic health system, we have an incredible obligation to the people of Arkansas. Recognitions like this offer a clear indication that we are fulfilling our obligation.”
UAMS is the state’s only health sciences university, offering a wide range of educational programs and clinical services. With a focus on serving the community and providing high-quality care to all patients, UAMS Medical Center continues to be a leader in equitable access to healthcare.
