The 45th National Science and Technology Fair commences in Dhaka on Tuesday

The 45th National Science and Technology Week and Fair is set to kick off on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at the Agargaon Science and Technology Complex in the capital. This two-day event will feature the 8th National Science Olympiad and science quiz competition, with selected students from across the country participating in three categories.

With hopes of attracting half a million science enthusiasts, including teachers, students, parents, and visitors, the organizers are gearing up for a successful fair. A total of 700 contestants from all corners of the country are expected to take part in the event.

During a press conference held at the National Museum of Science and Technology, Abdur Razzak, Acting Director General of the National Science and Technology Museum, announced that the competition will offer financial prizes and opportunities for winners to travel abroad, aiming to foster the innovative spirit of young scientists.

Tariqur Rahman Khan, a contributor of The Daily Prothom Alo, highlighted the crucial role of media in shaping a science-minded nation during a seminar at the press conference. He emphasized the importance of media workers in spreading awareness about science and technology to the public.

Abdur Razzak, speaking as the President of the event, emphasized the significance of science education and the efforts being made to remove regional barriers through initiatives like the Mobile Science Museum. He also mentioned the government’s initiative to establish a regional office in Khulna division to expand the reach of science education.

Curator Sukolyan Bachhar and Director Md. Wahidul Islam of the National Science and Technology Museum, along with media worker Imdadul Haque, discussed the importance of science education in building a work-oriented generation and a knowledge-based economy. They stressed the need for public-private partnerships to promote science education and create a science-minded society.

The fair will showcase innovative projects from 192 stalls, with winners receiving attractive prizes and the opportunity to participate in government visits to countries like India, Indonesia, and Korea. The event aims to encourage young minds to explore science and develop their innovative abilities, ultimately contributing to the country’s sustainable development.
