The Staples-Motley Cardinals secured a 6-3 victory over the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines in the Section 6-2A Opening Round on Tuesday, May 28. Ben Tyrrell led the way for the Cardinals with a stellar 3-3 performance, including a double and three runs scored. Alex Schultz also contributed with a double and two RBIs, while Griffin Bettis pitched a gem, striking out 11 batters and allowing just two runs on five hits.
On the other side, Wadena-Deer Creek’s Kobe Snyder had an impressive game, going 3-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Despite the efforts of Snyder and his teammates Carson Davis and Ben Kreklau, the Wolverines fell short in the game. Peyton Church started on the mound for WDC, pitching five innings with six strikeouts.
With the win, the Cardinals advance in the tournament while the Wolverines finish their season with a 9-9 overall record.
