Ground was broken last week for the new Patey Aviation Business Park at the Spanish Fork Airport, marking a significant leap forward for both the airport and private aviation enthusiasts. The $60 million first phase development of the $100 million total project will feature 66 hangars catering to the diverse needs of private pilots, with sizes ranging from 2,200 to 21,000 square feet.
City Manager Seth Perrins highlighted the benefits of the project for Spanish Fork residents, including an increased property tax base and potential job opportunities as industry comes to the airport. The park will also include a public restaurant with a clear view of landings and takeoffs, as well as a fuel station offering discounted fuel for all aircraft types.
Project manager Brad Mertz shared plans for additional services such as pilot physicals, aircraft maintenance, and a display of a full-size Douglas C-54 plane. The park project is divided into two phases, with the first phase expected to be completed in 12-18 months.
Overall, the development of the Patey Aviation Business Park is set to transform the Spanish Fork Airport into one of the greatest general aviation airports in the country, further solidifying its position as the fourth-busiest general aviation airport in Utah. With special events like monthly airport breakfasts and an annual air and car show, the airport continues to be a hub for aviation enthusiasts and the community alike.
