Eight cities in Pennsylvania have been named among the top 150 places to live in the United States, according to a new ranking released by U.S. News & World Report.
Pittsburgh, Lancaster, Scranton, Harrisburg, Allentown, Philadelphia, York, and Reading all made the list, with Pittsburgh ranking the highest at No. 36. The report highlighted Pittsburgh’s transformation since the closure of the steel mills in the 1980s, noting its clean environment and vibrant energy.
Lancaster was ranked at No. 79, with U.S. News praising its diverse offerings, from close-knit church communities to a thriving indie coffee shop scene. Scranton, at No. 93, was recognized for its low crime rate and affordable cost of living, making it a popular choice for families and young professionals alike.
Harrisburg, the capital of Pennsylvania, came in at No. 109, with its easy access to outdoor activities and scenic trails along the Susquehanna River. Allentown, Philadelphia, York, and Reading also made the list, each offering unique attractions and amenities for residents.
The top spot on the list went to Naples, Florida, followed by cities like Boise, Idaho, and Colorado Springs, Colorado. U.S. News adjusted its scoring weights this year to give more consideration to a city’s value and job market, reflecting rising concerns about career prospects and housing affordability.
The rankings were determined based on a methodology that takes into account factors like job market, value, quality of life, and desirability. Data from various sources, including the U.S. Census Bureau and the FBI, were used to compile the list.
Overall, the ranking serves as a valuable resource for individuals looking to relocate or find a new place to call home, offering insights into the best places to live across the country.
