Warren Athletes Gear Up for District 10 Track and Field Championship
Several Warren athletes are set to compete at the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association District 10 2A Track and Field Championship meet at Slippery Rock University this Saturday. Warren coach Kevin Dustin is optimistic about the team’s chances, stating, “in a few areas, we are looking to qualify for states next weekend.”
Among the standout athletes to watch are Sam Lindell in the 3,200 meters, the girls 4-by-100-meter relay team of Lilly Newton, Maddie Nosel, Lindsay Madigan, and Laney Gatto, and Morgan Alexander in the 3,200 meters. Laney Gatto, in particular, is ranked second in pole vault and has already cleared the states auto height.
Newcomers Quinn Norris, Brynn Norris, Emma Peterson, Riley Evan, Kylie Fehlman, Zoe Rodgers, and Adison Cullers will also be competing at districts for the first time, while senior athletes like Tori McMichael and Alexia Bowers are looking to end their high school careers on a high note.
The top two finishers in each event at the District 10 meet, as well as those who achieve the state-qualifying standard, will qualify for states. Last year, freshman Lilly Newton earned a silver in the 400 meters to qualify for states.
The Warren athletes have been working hard and are ready to give it their all at the championship meet. Stay tuned for updates on their performances and potential qualifications for the state meet next weekend.
