Skaneateles High School has claimed the top spot in the 2024 rankings of best public high schools in the Syracuse metro area, according to U.S. News and World Report. This prestigious ranking not only places Skaneateles at the top locally, but also ranks it as the 65th best public high school in all of New York and No. 538 nationwide.
Following closely behind Skaneateles is Fayetteville-Manlius High School, which secured the second spot in the Syracuse metro area rankings. Fayetteville-Manlius was also recognized as the 79th best high school in New York and No. 706 in the U.S.
The rankings, released on April 23 by U.S. News, take into consideration various factors such as state test scores in math, reading, and science, college readiness among students, curriculum, and graduation rates. Nearly 18,000 schools were evaluated for the 2024 rankings.
Other high-ranking schools in the Syracuse metro area include Jamesville-DeWitt, Cazenovia, and Marcellus, rounding out the top five. The Syracuse metro area encompasses Madison, Onondaga, and Oswego counties.
While schools in wealthier, suburban districts like Skaneateles and Fayetteville often rank highly on lists like this, it’s important to note the disparities in available resources. Students in urban areas like Syracuse face unique challenges, including higher rates of poverty and hunger.
