Michigan Attorney General conducts search warrants on Google and X as part of ongoing investigation into 2020 fake electors case.

Michigan prosecutors have received hundreds of files from Google and X, formerly Twitter, in relation to their 2020 election subversion probe. This comes after CNN exposed secret social media accounts belonging to pro-Trump lawyer Kenneth Chesebro, a key player in the fake electors plot. The search warrants obtained by investigators allowed access to Chesebro’s emails and private direct messages, revealing ongoing efforts by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel to gather new information.

Chesebro, who has not been charged in Michigan but has pleaded guilty in Georgia’s election interference probe, attempted to bring prominent pro-Trump figures to Washington, DC to witness his “fake electors” strategy on January 6, 2021. Despite offering to cover expenses for individuals like former Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke and the founder of the Gateway Pundit website, it appears that no one accepted his offers.

The documents provided to Michigan prosecutors show Chesebro’s aggressive outreach to conservative pundits and right-wing figures following Trump’s loss in the 2020 election. Chesebro’s interactions with individuals like Jim Hoft of Gateway Pundit reveal his efforts to shape news coverage and promote his theories on subverting the Electoral College process.

Chesebro’s denial of using social media applications for private messaging was contradicted by materials provided by X to investigators, which contained numerous messages exchanged during the 2020 election fallout. The investigation also uncovered Chesebro’s attempts to engage Wisconsin political pundits and legal scholars in promoting claims of election irregularities, with mixed responses from recipients.

As the probe continues, Chesebro’s interactions and attempts to influence media coverage shed light on the extent of efforts to undermine the 2020 election results. The story is ongoing, with additional details being updated as the investigation progresses.
