For the fourth consecutive year, Nixa High School has secured the top spot on the annual national list of top public high schools in the Springfield metro area. The 2024 Best High School rankings, released by U.S. News & World Report, have once again recognized Nixa for its academic excellence.
The rankings, which are heavily based on standardized test scores and college-preparatory courses, place Nixa at No. 1 among the 23 high schools in the Springfield metro area. However, the school is ranked No. 27 among the more than 350 high schools in Missouri.
LaMont Jones, managing editor of education at U.S. News, emphasized the importance of the rankings in helping parents understand a school’s academic performance. He stated, “Accessible data on our high schools can empower families across the country as they navigate today’s educational environment and plan for the future.”
Schools are ranked based on criteria such as students consistently scoring above expectations in reading, math, and science on state-mandated tests, as well as the proportion of students earning qualifying scores in college-level exams. The rankings also consider the academic performance of historically underrepresented students.
In addition to the national and state rankings, U.S. News also ranked high schools in various metro areas across Missouri. In the Springfield metro area, Nixa High School was followed by Ozark High School at No. 2 and Willard High School at No. 3.
Overall, Nixa High School’s continued success in the rankings highlights its commitment to academic excellence and student achievement.
