NTNU Offers Exciting Opportunity for PhD Candidate in Hybrid Manufacturing Processes

Are you passionate about cutting-edge manufacturing technologies and sustainable practices? NTNU is currently seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join as a PhD candidate in the field of Hybrid Manufacturing Processes. This 3-year position will focus on developing new hybrid processes enabled by solid-state additive manufacturing, formative, and subtractive processing methods to enhance the manufacturing of components using recycled aluminum alloys.

As a part of the NTNU Aluminium Product Innovation Center (NAPIC) and MANULAB, you will have the opportunity to work on advanced processes such as aluminum forming, welding, additive manufacturing, and hybrid processing. The goal is to develop competitive and sustainable manufacturing technologies, with a specific focus on applications for electric vehicles.

Under the guidance of Associate Professor Jun Ma, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and prototyping new hybrid manufacturing processes, testing and validating these processes with recycled aluminum alloys, conducting mechanical and microstructural testing, and investigating process behaviors and mechanisms. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to publish high-level research and participate in the mandatory PhD research education program.

To be considered for this position, candidates must have a background in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Materials Processing, with a strong academic record. Experience in process development in metal forming, friction stir welding, or additive manufacturing is required, along with excellent written and oral English skills.
