A girl in Cornwall has been hospitalized with serious injuries after being mauled by a suspected XL Bully dog in a brutal attack. The incident occurred in Lowenek Close in Falmouth, where the growling dog pounced on her, leading to her being rushed to Treliske Hospital in Truro.
Armed police responded to the scene and seized the dog, although it is unclear whether the dog was destroyed or taken to a secure kennel. The Devon and Cornwall Police are currently investigating the incident to determine the full circumstances.
XL Bully dogs were recently banned by the government following a series of attacks. It is now a criminal offense to own an XL Bully in England and Wales without a certificate, with strict regulations in place for ownership, including keeping the dogs on a lead and muzzled in public.
Earlier this month, a man was sentenced for illegally owning an XL Bully after failing to apply for an exemption, neuter the dog, or obtain insurance. The dog was seized and the man was ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work as part of a community order.
The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by XL Bully dogs and the importance of responsible ownership and adherence to the law.
