California boasts some of the best high schools in the nation, with 11 schools in the top 100, according to the latest rankings by U.S. News & World Report. The rankings, released on Tuesday, looked at over 24,000 public high schools across all 50 states and Washington, D.C., with 1,652 schools in California alone.
Leading the pack is Riverside Stem Academy in Riverside, which secured the 10th spot nationally with an impressive overall score of 99.94 out of 100. The school focuses on preparing students for success in 21st-century careers as leaders and innovators.
Other top-ranking schools in California include Whitney High School in Cerritos and Science Academy Stem Magnet in North Hollywood, coming in second and third place, respectively. Schools like Oxford Academy in Cypress, California Academy of Mathematics and Science in Carson, and Lowell High School in San Francisco also made the list.
In the Central Valley, West Campus High School in Sacramento stood out as the highest-ranked school in the area, while University High School in Fresno and Stockton Unified Early College Academy in Stockton also received high marks. On the Central Coast, San Luis Obispo High School was recognized for its academic excellence.
The rankings were based on factors such as college readiness, curriculum quality, and graduation rates. U.S. News & World Report used data from sources like the College Board, International Baccalaureate, and the U.S. Department of Education to assess and rank the schools.
