Uvalde High School Celebrates Seven Athletes Signing Letters of Intent
Uvalde High School held its Spring College Signing Day ceremony on April 29, where seven senior athletes signed their letters of intent to play college sports next school year. Family and friends gathered to witness the exciting moment as the students committed to their respective colleges.
Ahlaynah Barrientos, a standout soccer player for the Uvalde Lobos, signed on to play for Western Texas College at Snyder. Barrientos, who was a District 28-4A All-District first-team selection in 2024, was praised by her coaches for her passion and dedication to the sport.
Caden Smith and E’lijah Carroll signed their letters of intent to play football for Texas Lutheran University. Both athletes were commended by UHS head football coach Wade Miller for their hard work and leadership on the field.
Zoey Ibarra will be playing softball for McMurry University at Abilene next season. UHS assistant softball coach Will Kolinek and UHS head powerlifting coach AJ Martinez spoke highly of Ibarra’s work ethic and determination.
Jack Collins signed his letter of intent to attend Angelo State University for cross country and track. UHS cross country coach Libby Gonzales and former UHS principal Randy Harris praised Collins for his accomplishments and leadership.
Allison Goggans signed a letter of intent to attend Hardin Simmons University on a tennis scholarship. Former UHS head tennis coach Terri Rambie and former UHS assistant tennis coach Eric Mahler commended Goggans for her skills and character on and off the court.
Nakyla Rodriguez rounded out the evening by signing on to play softball at Oakton College in Illinois. Rodriguez’s select team coach, Bart Stevens, and former UHS assistant coach, Lilia Delgado, spoke highly of her work ethic and dedication to the sport.
Overall, it was a night of celebration and excitement as these talented student-athletes took the next step in their athletic careers. The Uvalde community is proud of their accomplishments and wishes them all the best in their future endeavors.
