Houston-based companies are making waves in U.S. News and World Report’s latest collection of the “Best Companies to Work For” in 2024-2025. More than a dozen companies from the city have been recognized for their outstanding workplace environments and employee benefits.
The annual report evaluates publicly-traded companies worldwide based on six key metrics, including work-life balance, pay and benefits, job stability, career opportunities, and more. While the companies were not ranked, they were selected based on reader surveys and publicly available data.
Among the 16 Houston-based companies that made the list, construction company Comfort Systems USA stood out as a top employer. With a workforce of 15,800 and annual revenue of $5.57 billion, Comfort Systems earned high ratings for job stability, professional development opportunities, and a sense of belonging among employees.
Marathon Oil and Occidental (Oxy) were also recognized for their exceptional workplace environments. Marathon Oil, with nearly 1,700 employees and $6.38 billion in annual revenue, was praised for its quality of pay and benefits, work-life balance, and job stability. Occidental, a petroleum corporation with 12,600 employees and $27.43 billion in annual revenue, offers a range of financial, health, and wellness benefits to its employees.
Other Houston-based companies that made the list include Insperity, Southwestern Energy Company, PROS, Powell Industries, Stewart, ConocoPhillips, LGI Homes, Service Corporation International, Skyward Specialty Insurance, Camden Property Trust, Cheniere, EOG Resources, and Murphy Oil Corporation.
Overall, Texas had a strong showing on the list, with 42 employers from the Lone Star State making the cut. Houston tied with Dallas-Fort Worth for the highest number of top-rated employers, with 16 each. The list also included companies from Austin, San Antonio, and West Texas.
