JMU Men’s Basketball Makes Waves in Transfer Portal
The JMU Men’s Basketball team has been making big moves in the transfer portal this offseason, adding several key players to their roster. With graduations and the departure of head coach Mark Byington, the Dukes knew they needed to hit the portal hard to fill their roster for the upcoming season.
One of the biggest returns for the Dukes is rising junior guard Xavier Brown. Brown was a key player for the team last season, and his decision to return is a huge boost for the team. With his scoring ability and defensive skills, Brown has the potential to be a standout player in the Sun Belt conference.
In addition to Brown, the Dukes have added several new players to their roster. Eddie Ricks III, a forward from Morehead State, brings defensive prowess and offensive upside to the team. Justin Taylor, a guard from Syracuse, is a defensive wing with offensive potential. AJ Smith, a wing from Southern Indiana, adds scoring and rebounding ability to the team.
Other notable additions include Ebenezer Dowuona, a center from NC State/Georgia Tech, Elijah Hutchins-Everett, a center from Austin Peay/Seton Hall, Luke Anderson, a forward from Iowa State/USF/Florida Southern, Bryce Lindsay, a guard from Texas A&M, Mark Freeman, a guard from Morehead State, and Will Lovings-Watts, a guard from NIU.
However, the team has also seen some departures, including Terrence Edwards, Jaylen Carey, Raekwon Horton, Justin Amadi, Hollman Smith, Brycen Blaine, and Quincy Allen. Despite these losses, the Dukes are confident in the new additions to their roster and are looking forward to a successful season.
With a mix of returning players and new additions, the JMU Men’s Basketball team is shaping up to be a force to be reckoned with in the Sun Belt conference. Fans can expect an exciting season ahead as the Dukes look to make their mark in college basketball.
