Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, has officially declared his residency in the United States, further solidifying his separation from his royal duties in Britain. The acknowledgment comes as a travel company he controls, Travalyst Ltd, filed paperwork informing British authorities of his move to the US.
The prince, who is the son of King Charles III and fifth in line to the British throne, has been living in Southern California with his wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, since 2020. Since then, he has been vocal in his criticism of the royal family, including allegations of unconscious racism.
However, Harry’s US residency is now facing scrutiny, as the Heritage Foundation has raised concerns about the Department of Homeland Security’s decision to grant him a visa, citing admissions of drug use in his autobiography, Spare. The foundation has requested a judge to release Harry’s immigration file, as a history of drug use would typically disqualify an applicant from obtaining a visa.
Meanwhile, in Britain, Prince William has returned to public duties for the first time since his wife, Kate, the Princess of Wales, revealed she was undergoing preventive chemotherapy for cancer. William appeared in good spirits as he visited a surplus food redistribution charity, where he received “get well soon” cards for Kate and King Charles, who is also undergoing cancer treatment.
In other news, Harry recently lost an appeal against a high court decision to reduce his personal security detail when visiting the UK. The prince’s updated residency status marks a significant step in his increasing estrangement from his royal responsibilities in Britain.
