The 70th annual New Ulm Club Athletic Appreciation Banquet was a night to remember as six senior athletes from each of the three New Ulm high schools were honored as their school’s Male and Female Outstanding Senior Athletes of the Year. The banquet, held at Martin Luther College, celebrated the hard work and dedication of these exceptional student-athletes.
At New Ulm High School, Afton Hulke and James Osborne were named as the Female and Male Outstanding Senior Athletes of the Year, respectively. Hulke, a standout in both volleyball and hockey, was praised for her leadership and dedication on and off the court. Osborne, a three-sport athlete in football, basketball, and track and field, was recognized for his impressive achievements and contributions to his teams.
Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School honored Mackenzie Merseth and Ben Pearson as their Female and Male Outstanding Senior Athletes of the Year. Merseth, a three-sport athlete in volleyball, basketball, and golf, was commended for her versatility and hard work on the court. Pearson, a standout in basketball, football, and golf, was celebrated for his record-breaking performances and leadership on and off the field.
Lastly, New Ulm Cathedral High School recognized Jenna Hotovec and Jevan Wilfahrt as their Female and Male Outstanding Senior Athletes of the Year. Hotovec, a three-sport athlete in volleyball, basketball, and softball, was praised for her exceptional skills and leadership qualities. Wilfahrt, a four-sport athlete in football, basketball, track and field, and baseball, was honored for his outstanding achievements and dedication to his teams.
The guest speaker at the banquet, former New Ulmite Frank Whitcomb, emphasized the importance of wisdom and encouraged the senior athletes to continue on their path of success, both on and off the field. The night was a true celebration of the talent and dedication of these remarkable student-athletes, showcasing the best of New Ulm’s athletic community.
