The Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart Mustangs made a statement at the Class A State Girls Basketball Tournament, finishing in third place after a dominant performance against Underwood. The Mustangs shot the lights out, hitting 15 of 26 shots from beyond the arc to secure a 66-49 victory.
Head coach Jesse Weick praised his team’s resilience throughout the season, especially after starting off with a 0-2 record. The Mustangs finished the season with a remarkable 29-4 record, breaking school records along the way.
Leading the charge for BLHS was Lily Hubin, who scored 23 points with four 3-pointers, and Ellaina Bergstrom, who added 16 points with four 3-pointers as well. The team’s sharpshooting from beyond the arc was a key factor in their success.
Despite falling short of the first-place trophy, the Mustangs were proud of their third-place finish and the opportunity to compete at the state level. The game also marked the final high school game for seniors Rachel and Kristi Kottke, who will continue their basketball careers at St. Cloud State University, and Bergstrom, who will play at Ridgewater College.
