ITV newsreader Rageh Omaar, known for his work as a BBC world affairs correspondent and presenting various ITV programmes, including the funeral of Queen Elizabeth, made headlines on Friday April 26, 2024 when he felt unwell during ITV’s News At 10.
Rageh, 50, was born in Mogadishu and moved to the UK at a young age. He studied at prestigious schools such as the Dragon School, Oxford, and Cheltenham College before attending New College, Oxford where he studied Modern History.
Starting his career as a trainee for The Voice newspaper, Rageh later joined the BBC where he reported from Iraq and worked as a producer and broadcast journalist. In January 2013, he joined ITV News as a special correspondent and presenter, eventually becoming the International Affairs Editor.
During ITV’s News At 10 on April 26, 2024, viewers noticed Rageh appearing unwell on live TV, prompting the show to be stopped. A message on the screen informed viewers that the show would resume shortly and that Rageh was receiving medical treatment.
Rageh has also worked at Al Jazeera English, hosting documentary series and investigative documentaries. He was appointed the BBC’s Africa correspondent in 2004 and served as ITV’s royal presenter for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth in 2022.
Rageh is married to Georgiana Rose “Nina” Montgomery-Cuninghame and they have three children. The couple resides in Chiswick, west London.
