Mayo Clinic-Florida Tops List of Best Hospitals in Florida, Johns Hopkins All Children’s Ranked Best Hospital for Kids
In a recent report by U.S. News and World Report, Mayo Clinic-Florida in Jacksonville has been named the top hospital in the state of Florida. The publication also ranked Johns Hopkins All Children’s in St. Petersburg as the top hospital for kids in the state.
The annual ratings by U.S. News and World Report also included an honor roll of the nation’s 20 best hospitals, with no Florida hospitals making the list. However, Mayo Clinic-Florida was recognized for offering 10 adult specialties that ranked nationally, with high-performing ratings in 19 adult procedures and conditions.
Dr. Kent Thielen, CEO of Mayo Clinic-Florida, expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating, “We are humbled and honored to once again be ranked as the top hospital in Florida by U.S. News & World Report.”
Following Mayo Clinic-Florida, Tampa General Hospital claimed the second spot in the state, moving up two spots from last year. Tampa General has been the top-ranked hospital in the Tampa Bay region for nine consecutive years, with U.S. News noting its ranking among the nation’s top 50 hospitals in eight medical specialties.
President and CEO John Couris attributed the rankings to the strong partnership between Tampa General and USF Health, stating, “It is a testament to the strength in partnership between Tampa General and USF Health and a reflection of our teams’ collaboration to advance research, innovation, and technology to transform health care.”
Rounding out the top five hospitals in Florida were UF Health Shands in Gainesville, AdventHealth Orlando, and Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
The rankings were determined using objective measures such as risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications, and level of nursing care, with data sourced from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The procedures and conditions ratings were based on objective quality measures.
