Martha’s Vineyard News from The Vineyard Gazette

The Vineyard boys tennis team is dominating the court this spring, with a seven and two record to start the season. Leading their division, the Vineyarders are on track to sweep the Cape and Islands league as they gear up for the postseason. Last week, the boys secured wins against Barnstable, Falmouth, and Monomoy, with their doubles tandems remaining undefeated.

Head coach Nicole Macy attributes the team’s success to their strong camaraderie and long-standing experience playing together. This week, the boys will face Barnstable and Nauset at home, with matches scheduled for Wednesday and Friday.

On the girls’ side, the tennis team also secured wins against Barnstable and Falmouth last week, with upcoming matches against Nauset and Nantucket. The softball team continued their winning streak with victories against Cape Cod Tech and Mashpee, fueled by standout performances at the plate and on the mound.

In lacrosse, the boys team delivered a notable victory against Monomoy, while the girls defeated Sturgis East. The sailing team placed second in the district championship qualifier regatta, and the track team is gearing up for larger championship events after strong showings at recent invitationals.

Overall, Vineyard sports teams are showcasing their talent and determination this spring, with exciting matchups and achievements on the horizon.
