Prince William returned to royal duties today for the first time since the Princess of Wales revealed her cancer diagnosis – and let slip a fun fact about his youngest son Prince Louis.
The Prince of Wales, 41, rolled up his sleeves and gave a helping hand loading food and cooking in the kitchen at food distribution charity Surplus to Supper, in Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey. The future king appeared relaxed and in good spirits as he toured the organization, learning about its work supplying food banks and other organizations with essential items. The charity, based within Sunbury Cricket Club, received a royal visit as William shook hands with volunteers and lent a hand to help out.
During the engagement, Prince William revealed that his youngest son, Prince Louis, loves cricket. Louis, who turns six on Tuesday, has shown a fondness for the sport in the past, as seen in pictures released to mark his fourth birthday. In the portraits taken by Kate, Louis could be seen clutching a cricket ball. It seems that the love for cricket runs in the family, as his older brother Prince George is also known to be a fan of the sport.
In a touching moment during the visit, volunteer Rachel Candappa handed two get well soon cards to Prince William, addressed to the King and Kate. The prince, visibly moved by the gesture, thanked Rachel and promised to “look after” the Princess of Wales. Rachel shared her experience of meeting the prince, expressing her admiration for his down-to-earth nature and vowing to never wash her hand again after shaking his hand.
