IU Bloomington Named Best Global University in Indiana, Ranks 135th Worldwide
Indiana University Bloomington has been named the best global university in the state of Indiana, according to the 2024-25 US News and World Report’s Best Global Universities list. Out of 2,250 universities worldwide, IU Bloomington ranked 135th overall, showcasing its excellence in research and academic reputation.
The university excelled in various study areas, placing in the top 50 in Economics and Business, as well as in Education and Education Research. IU also secured spots in the top 100 in eight out of the 31 surveyed study areas, highlighting the breadth and depth of its academic offerings.
IU President Pamela Whitten expressed pride in the university’s achievement, stating, “This recognition acknowledges the groundbreaking research of IU Bloomington faculty, which is regularly cited by experts around the world. Our ranking is also a testament to our robust international partnerships with communities and institutions on every major continent.”
The Best Global Universities list evaluates universities based on their global research contributions and reputation. IU was ranked 109th overall in Global Research Reputation, underscoring its impact on the global academic community.
The School of Education at IU received particular recognition, ranking 38th in the world in Education and Education Research. Dean Anastasia Morrone attributed this success to the faculty’s respected research and strong history of international collaborations.
Additionally, IU’s Kelley School of Business performed well, securing the 43rd spot in the Economics and Business category. The school was praised for its high number of publications and citations, solidifying its reputation as a leading institution in the field.
IU shares its 135th place ranking with Seoul National University in South Korea, highlighting its global reach and impact. Other notable Indiana universities included Purdue University at 167th and Notre Dame at 378th.
The Best Global Universities ranking differs from the annual National Best Universities list, focusing more on research and academic reputation. IU also ranked 73rd on the National list, showcasing its consistent excellence across various metrics.
