The tech industry mourns the loss of Vineet Nayyar, former Vice-Chairman of Tech Mahindra, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 85. His death was confirmed by former MD and CEO CP Gurnani in a heartfelt post on social media platform X.
Gurnani described Nayyar as one of India’s finest leaders, a friend, philosopher, brother, guide, and statesman par excellence. He expressed his deep sorrow at the loss of someone who had been a guiding light for him for decades.
Nayyar, born in 1939, played a crucial role in the growth of Tech Mahindra and the revival of Satyam Computer Services. With a career spanning over 40 years in both private and public sectors, Nayyar held various leadership positions in different organizations. He was a former Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer and also worked with the World Bank for eight years.
Under Nayyar’s leadership, Satyam computers eventually became Mahindra Satyam, bringing new customers in banking, healthcare, and retail sectors to Tech Mahindra. His visionary leadership and dedication have left an indelible mark on the industry.
Tributes poured in from the IT industry body Nasscom and Anand Mahindra, Chairman of Mahindra Group, who remembered Nayyar’s contributions and leadership in shaping the industry. Nayyar’s passing is a great loss to the Indian business landscape, and he will always be remembered for his wisdom, leadership, and friendship.
