In a thrilling softball matchup on Thursday, the United Eagles defeated the Crestview Rebels with a final score of 8-6. The game was a back-and-forth battle, with United leaving seven runners on base in the first three innings before scoring five runs in the next two innings to secure the win.
Senior Joshlynn Irey and Samantha Lippiatt led the Eagles to victory, both achieving over 100 career hits in the game. Irey, the leadoff hitter, had an impressive performance with a double, three singles, and four runs scored. Lippiatt contributed with two hits, two walks, and two runs. Mati Zines also played a key role, walking three times and driving in a run with a sacrifice fly in the first inning.
On the Crestview side, Emma Snyder stood out with a 3-for-4 performance and an RBI, while Chloe Stoops added two hits, an RBI, and a run.
United improved their record to 8-1 with the win, while Crestview fell to 1-7. Zines earned the complete-game victory for the Eagles, giving up three earned runs on 10 hits with seven strikeouts and two walks. Snyder took the loss for Crestview, allowing three earned runs on 10 hits over 6 2/3 innings.
Both teams will be back in action today, with United hosting East Liverpool and Crestview taking on Campbell Memorial.
In other softball action, Columbiana swept Lisbon in a doubleheader, winning 9-0 and 19-0. The Clippers’ dominant performances were highlighted by Caitlynn Pleska’s two doubles, a single, and two RBIs in the first game, and Mackenzi Gamble’s four hits, including a double and an RBI, in the second game.
