The Miami Marlins are off to a historically bad start, dropping their ninth consecutive game on Saturday to the St. Louis Cardinals. The winless Marlins are the only team in baseball without a victory this season, setting a new franchise record for the worst start in their 33-year history.
The Cardinals’ Steve Matz pitched five scoreless innings, leading his team to a 3-1 victory over the struggling Marlins. Iván Herrera and Brendan Donovan each had two hits for St. Louis, while Jordan Walker contributed an RBI double.
Miami’s Trevor Rogers struggled on the mound, giving up three runs, two earned, and five hits in five innings. The Marlins have now lost 10 consecutive games dating back to last season and have dropped 13 of their last 16 games at Busch Stadium.
The New York Mets, who started the season with seven straight losses, finally secured their first win on Thursday against the Detroit Tigers. The Marlins will look to turn their season around and avoid setting a new record for the worst start in MLB history, currently held by the 1988 Baltimore Orioles with 21 consecutive losses.
