The weather in Springfield and Central Illinois is looking dry and mild for the next few days, but residents should brace themselves for the possibility of storms on the horizon.

Wednesday will bring mostly sunny skies with a slow warm-up in the afternoon, reaching a high of 61 and a low of 38. Thursday will see a mix of sun and clouds with mild temperatures, reaching a high of 65 and a low of 50. However, Friday is when things could get interesting, with scattered but strong storm chances in the afternoon and a high of 70 and a low of 64. Saturday will bring rain chances early and gusty winds in the afternoon, with a high of 77 and a low of 67. Sunday will see scattered storms with temperatures staying warm, reaching a high of 80 and a low of 62.

Meteorologist Nick Patrick warns that Central Illinois is at a marginal risk for severe weather on Friday, with the potential for isolated strong thunderstorms. Western Illinois is at a slight risk for severe storms, so residents should stay alert and prepared for changing weather conditions. The storms should clear out overnight, allowing warm air to flow into the region on Saturday, bringing windy and warm conditions.

In Champaign and East-Central Illinois, temperatures will remain below average through Thursday, with a mix of sun and clouds on Wednesday and a high of 61 and a low of 39. Thursday will see partly cloudy skies with temperatures closer to average in the upper 60s. Friday will bring rain and windy conditions, with some thunderstorms expected and a high of 72 and a low of 63. Saturday will see more rain and scattered storms with gusty winds, reaching a high of 81 and a low of 65.

Meteorologist Darren Leeds warns of a very active stretch of weather from Friday through Sunday, with the potential for severe storms on Sunday. Rain potential is high, with some areas expecting more than 2 inches of rain over the 3-4 day period.
