President Joe Biden brought his charm and wit to a church service and campaign event at Mount Airy Church of God in Christ in Philadelphia on Sunday. The President joked about his age, saying, “I know I only look like I’m 40 years old, but I’ve been around a little bit,” before expressing his optimism about America’s future.
During his speech, Biden discussed the importance of faith and unity, stating, “We’re all imperfect beings. We don’t know where or what faith will deliver us to or when. What we do know is that we can seek a life of light, hope, love, and truth, no matter what.”
The President also shared his plans to attend Sunday services at a Black church in Delaware, emphasizing the power of faith in both good times and tough times. Biden appeared to be reading from prepared notes during his speech, but still managed to connect with the audience.
In addition to his remarks on faith, Biden touched on the upcoming NATO summit, highlighting America’s role as a leader on the world stage. He stated, “The world is looking to America—not to carry the burden, but to lead their hopes.”
After his speech, President Biden stayed in the church to take selfies and speak with attendees, with some chanting “four more years” as he made his way through the room. Despite the enthusiasm of the crowd, Biden did not answer shouted questions from reporters.
Biden’s allies have encouraged him to do more unscripted events to shift the narrative away from his recent debate performance. Overall, the President’s visit to Mount Airy Church of God in Christ showcased his ability to connect with voters on a personal level and address important issues facing the country.
