A man has been charged with murder after a series of stabbings in Hainault on Tuesday that left a teenage boy dead. Marcus Aurelio Arduini Monzo, 36, was charged with the murder of Daniel Anjorin, 14, and will appear at Barkingside magistrates court on Thursday, May 2.
Monzo, a Spanish-Brazilian dual national, has also been charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of grievous bodily harm, aggravated burglary, and possession of a bladed article. The families of all those affected have been informed.
The charges were authorized by the homicide division of the Crown Prosecution Service following an investigation by the Metropolitan police. Jaswant Narwal, chief crown prosecutor for CPS London North, expressed condolences to the family of Daniel and all those impacted by the incident.
The tragic events unfolded on Tuesday morning when police were called to Thurlow Gardens in Hainault after a vehicle collided with a house. A suspect armed with a sword then carried out a series of attacks, injuring two police officers and two members of the public.
The suspect was apprehended 22 minutes after the initial call to police and was detained after being shot with a Taser. The injured suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Speaking before the victim was identified, Ch Supt Stuart Bell expressed sadness over the death of the 14-year-old boy and extended support to his family during this difficult time. The Met commissioner, Sir Mark Rowley, provided details on the injuries sustained by the officers involved in the incident.
Daniel Anjorin attended the same school as one of the victims of the 2023 Nottingham attacks, adding another layer of tragedy to this already devastating event. The community is left reeling from the senseless violence that has claimed the life of a young boy and left others injured.
